loose headsets

ive got a pig dh pro headset and the other day i took my forks out of my frame to get them serviced but when i put them back in and tightened up all the bolts and put everything back in the right place, there was major play in the headset and tryed fixing it but cant seem to work.
does anyone know what to do coz if not i will jst take it to a bike shop

first thing to do, make sure you havn't just preloading the headset wrong, so retry. to do this, loosen stem bolts (and upper crown bolts if you have triple clamps) then tighten the head adjuster (the bolt on top of the stem) so that its tight, but you can turn the forks with ease. Then, tighten up the stem and upper crown so the head set bearing remain preloaded.

if you still have play, its hard to diagonose over a forum but your headset has gone. take it down to local bike shop and see what they say.

stem lock won't fix the problem, unless the problem is the hollow star nut isn't gripping the headtube. and chances are he preloaded the headset bearing wrong.

posting false info in tech in bannable as it can result in people being mislead, and a stem lock 'might' fix it, but chances are it won't.

yeah I've been through my fair share of headset probs too, and now, after a experience just about every hedset related prob I'm all sorted

but if he not setting up right (which is the case 90% of the time), stem lock won't fix it, and you'll be 18 quid down
