basically, im going to sell my hardtail and big bike to fund the most part of a brand new bike i want to build up Smile

once I pick out a frame I'll start an NSMB style article of its progress in the article section. building up a brand new dream bike is something I havnt done before so Im really lookign forward to it Very Happy providing my bikes are sold before xmas it'll be done for january because ill use xmas presents to make up the difference partswise Smile

at the moment Im thinking 6" travel front and rear. tight headangle. short chainstay. built as strong as fuck. built as light as the strength can allow (definitely sub 40lb, hoping for 35lb ideally but strength and function comes first). I dont want an "all mountain" bike either because i never ride up hills, like ever, lol. fully pimped with top end parts and basically just a dream build. I should get 2.5k+ from hardtail and big bike combined. add to that a few hundred from birthday money and saved money, then add xmas pressies and should have enough Smile.

I need to pick a frame before I start seriously thinking about parts. I need to give rob cole a ring soon cause he should have some good advice, but at the moment the 3 frames I'm thinking about are the SX trail, the wildcard and the nomad.

partswise my initial thoughts are:
new saint cranks
new saint shadow mech
new saint shifter
new saint brakes
that braided brake cables ive forgotten the name of
some badass light hollowpin chain
xtr cassette
kevlar gear cable
maxxis sticky tyres
stans no tubes
sdg i-beam seat and post
36s, but considering totems and 66s too (top spec in each case of course)
raceface D2 stem
monkeylite bar possibly, need to look into how much is it is just hype. I know CNT technology is sound but the mtb industry is so fucked that eastern's use of CNT is dubious.

any ideas or thoughts then let me know Smile

im expecting 2k from my big bike cause my buddy bike paid like 2.something thousand for his bike second hand and its specced about the same. my big bike is full on, haha. 888 SLATA, full diabolus, codes, straitlines, i-beam, x-9 gearing, etccc haha

hardtail cost me just over a grand to built. i expect like 3 hundred for that maybe, hehe.

Apparently new saint brakes are dissapointing? Lack modulation etc etc and they make a really annoying whine.

who the hell told you that? lol. i have many accounts of them being amazing. and having notably more modulation than the old saints.

SX is nice but if you get a nicely set up wildcard it is so much nicer. Having ridden Rob Cole's tricked out one a bit i was massively impressed, really stable feeling, easy to pedal, super grippy to corner and light enough to throw around. Ample amount of travel for UK freeride and still enough to take abroad. Plus if its your dream build it should be a bit more exotic than an SX trail... Also are you planning on getting one of the new ones? The first few pics of them i've seen show a very different frame design.. it follows the new "bendy tubes" trend from the looks of things.

And with regards to the saints, I've only heard negative things so far :S I like saint stuff but have heard bad things. To be honest I hate brakes in general. I've never had a set i've been totally happy with. I will reserve judgement until i ride someones bike with the new saints.
